Woe #4: Rants and raves of a stressed out bride.

Warning: This post has nothing to do with my wedding.

Another warning: If you get offended easily by swearing or opinions, don't read this post.

Final warning: This is post is long. But sometimes, a woman gets so stressed and fed up with shit that she just wants to talk about it on her blog.

You know what bothers me? That the government and people I don't even know try to take away or limit my freedom to make choices for myself. I'm mildly disturbed at where this country is headed. I am a hardworking American citizen; I pay my taxes, I vote for my government leaders, I've never been a burden (gone to jail, gotten a ticket), I am a humanitarian in other countries, I believe in God, I work two jobs and pay for my own education, etc. I'm not some scum of the earth that walks into a school and shoots people. I'm not taking advantage of "Obama-bucks" and getting a free handout. I'm not an illegal immigrant who stole somebody's social security card. I'm a 20 year old woman who is getting married in August. And there are other people out there, just like me.

Then why does big government and radical groups threaten our rights?

For example, click here. It's an article by the Huffington Post; basically in a nutshell for those who aren't going to read the article, New Mexico lawmakers are trying to pass a bill that would legally require victims of rape to carry their pregnancies to term in order to use the fetus as evidence for a sexual assault trial. House Bill 206 would charge a rape victim who ended her pregnancy with a third-degree felony for "tampering with evidence." “Tampering with evidence shall include procuring or facilitating an abortion, or compelling or coercing another to obtain an abortion, of a fetus that is the result of criminal sexual penetration or incest with the intent to destroy evidence of the crime," the bill says.

P.S. by the way, third-degree felonies in New Mexico carry a sentence of up to three years in prison.

That's right, New Mexico, punish rape victims by sending them to prison if they CHOOSE to terminate a pregnancy that they more than likely don't want. A pregnancy caused by unwanted sexual advantages by a strange man, a family member, or a trusted adult. You're telling me that if a twelve year old GIRL gets raped, you'll send her to prison if she chooses to terminate her pregnancy? Newsflash, dumbasses, there are other ways to prosecute rape.

I'm disgusted. Honestly. If a law like this was to be placed before Utah lawmakers, I'd flip a bitch.

I'm sick and tired of the way the American government is being run. You know what, if I want to CHOOSE to get an abortion, I will. If I want to CHOOSE to buy an AR-15 and other guns, I will. If I want to CHOOSE to marry a woman (which obviously, I'm not going to, but still!) I'm going to marry a woman. If I want to CHOOSE to smoke marijuana, damn it, I'm going to do it. It pisses me off that the government has to have total and utter control. I don't think that's what the founding fathers of this great country wanted government to be. Sure, have laws in place to help protect and provide for the people, like speed laws and laws so you can't go murdering people. But take out a lot of the hot button topics of this current day and age (gay marriage, abortion, marijuana, gun control) and our country would be left to deal with the problems that really matter. For example, like getting our economy going or bettering education for our future.

Speaking of education... On another note: I am also fed up with certain professors within the SUU Communications department. I have spent close to five thousand dollars a year in schooling since 2010. A lot of that money for tuition comes from my own pocket. Since fall semester 2011, I have been taking communication classes for my major, mainly those with the emphasis of Public Relations. Fast forward to today, January 29, 2013: I am one year away from graduating and I am faced with a question from a professor: "What exactly have you guys learned in your classes?" Awkward silence. Absolutely freaking nothing about my major. In fact, when I started this particular class the beginning of January, I learned more about my future career in an hour and twenty minutes than I had in multiple semesters. I have studied, I have done assignments, I have taken tests, I have studied some more, and am I any closer to being efficient in Public Relations? No.

Do you know how humiliating it is to be told by a professor that she didn't grade your PR campaign papers because they were that bad? It's pretty freaking humiliating. We, as classmates who have struggled through the same classes, should know how to do such easy tasks being in a 4000 level class. Half of my class is graduating, for hells sake! I know several people who have talked to the department chair, who have talked to the dean, and who have talked to the Provost about issues with *certain* professors within the communications department. I myself have voiced concerns. And, don't you think a lot of people have given these particular professors bad reviews at the end of each semester? You bet'cha. And guess what? They're still sitting in their freaking offices, still teaching classes, still ruining future careers of Public Relations specialists and other comm. majors. They need to be let go, and new professors need to be hired to take their places. "There's not money for that," someone might say. So, you're telling me that there's not money to hire new professors, but there's money to be wasted on stupid Thor logos to go on bathroom soap dispensers, or on a football field for a team that got demolished this season? Makes perfect sense. Beautify the school so more people will come here, only to not learn a single freaking thing. Would I ever recommend anyone doing PR classes at SUU? Hell no, unless they could skip right to Comm. 4950. *This rant does not apply to Ellen Treanor, Kevin Stein, Matt Barton, or Jon Smith, four of the best professors that I've ever had on campus.*

Rant over. Needless to say, I came home today from class and cried into my fiance's chest, as he stroked my hair and told me how much he loved me. He listened to my rants and raves, and he didn't interrupt me once. I love you, Trevor Sean Green. Now, back to wedding planning.

  1. Ryan and I am completely on the same page. We are both fed up with SUU. We have a whole list of things that are crappy here that we want to take to Donna Eddelman and a few other people and say, "Fix this." If only, right?
