"Marriage is the most trusting step in any human relationship, it's a
real act of faith. The very nature of the endeavor requires that you
hold on to each other as tightly as you can, and jump!"
-Jeffery R. Holland
Here I am, laying on the floor in the bedroom I grew up in, listening to my littlest brother who took over my room sleep talk like a crazy man.
If I hear him shout, "NO! DON'T GO IN THE ROOM, BILL!" one more time, I might smother him with a pillow.
Not really, but I feel like it.
A girl's got to get her sleep!
Especially when this particular girl gets to marry her best friend tomorrow.
It's so amazing looking back over the past couple of years.
Everything has happened for a reason.
I don't regret one thing.
I went to college three hours away from home.
I made the best of friends, had great experiences, made lots of memories.
Met a boy my freshman year who I thought I loved.
Swore I'd wait for him on his mission after only dating for almost two months.
Over the next 14 months of waiting, I began to see what a man he really was.
And realized I didn't want that.
But, I kept waiting.
Because really, who would ever love me?
{Besides my dad and my gay ex-boyfriend[s]}
I didn't want to be alone.
I didn't want to hurt him.
I didn't want to prove everyone wrong, that waiting for a missionary is impossible.
The boys in Willowbrook apartment 19 were loud and obnoxious.
But in March 2012 one caught my eye.
And made me forget all about my missionary.
We started talking.
We hung out.
We kissed.
I felt happier than I had in months.
I enjoyed his companionship,
his laughter,
his hugs,
his comfort.
I ended things with the missionary, and truly saw what a man he was.
And realized I didn't want to marry into his family, either.
I began to feel something in my heart with Trevor, different than before.
It was... butterflies, a warm burning feeling, a longing to be with him as much as I could.
I knew that there was something different.
I truly, deeply loved him.
He was my best friend, my better half, my partner in crime.
Despite my crazy anxiety, this boy stuck with me.
He showed me over and over how much he loved me.
Each day, I saw another reason why I loved him, why I wanted to stay with him.
And in December 2012, he officially claimed me as his.
Tomorrow, August 3, 2013, Trevor gets to keep me for forever and always.
I don't believe in "The One."
But I believe that Trevor is a great match for me.
He makes me want to be a better person.
He makes me the happiest woman on earth.
He's the only person who can make me smile on the shittiest day.
He's the straw to my berry, that boy is.
Marriage is going to be hard.
We both don't know what we're doing.
Marriage is a big step, and I'm scared shitless.
Sometimes, Trevor pisses me off.
Sometimes, my anxiety of the "what if's" drives him up a wall.
We're young, in love, and very poor.
Someday we're going to throw kids into the mix.
But you know what?
There's no one else I'd rather take on this life with.
I can't live without him.
Failure is not an option.
Forgiveness is powerful.
"I love you" is the greatest three worded phrase.
Love truly endures all.
